There is so much more going on than most people think.

Swift Complex Planning Application

An open meeting to discuss the planning application to demolish the Swift Complex and build apartments.

About this Event

We are holding an open meeting online about the current planning application to demolish The Swift Complex at the Coal Quay in Carrickfergus Harbour and build apartments.

We want to explore people’s views of the planning application as the Swift Complex has been a discussion point on the Positive Carrickfergus Facebook page many times since it closed. It is clear that local people have ideas about how it could be developed and many of them are about the space being accessible to the public whether residents of Carrick or Tourists. It’s also clear that many people in Carrick have a real stake in the future of the town but this has not been channelled well to date.

With funding from the National Lottery Communities Fund’s Emerging Futures Fund, Positive Carrickfergus is interested in how we can support local democracy in all its forms and create greater accountability in the relationship between citizens and MEA council. This planning application seems like a good place to start exploring that work in more detail.
